PHYSIOLOGY 1

The mission of Parker College of Chiropractic is to educate men and women of all nationalities to become Doctors of Chiropractic, who will be able to serve as portal of entry, primary health care physicians and perpetuate chiropractic education, research, science, philosophy and art world-wide for the benefit of all mankind.  Physiology I aids in this mission by developing in the student a beginning understanding of how the human body functions, providing them with the basis for later diagnosing and correcting the chiropractic subluxation and to act as portal of entry primary health care physicians.
Completion of Physiology I should provide the student with a basic understanding of:
1.  Basic regulatory systems of the human body.
2.  A light overview of the autonomic nervous system and endocrinology
3.  Basic immune response
4.  Blood composition, formation of blood cells, blood groups, hemostasis, coagulation, and    leukocyte physiology. 
5.  Membrane and membrane transport systems.
6.  Diffusion, Osmosis, and cellular transport.
7.  Membrane potentials, graded potentials, and action potentials. 
8.  Synaptic transmission and the neuromuscular junction. 
9.  Skeletal muscle anatomy, excitation - contraction coupling,   mechanical function, and fiber types. 
10.  Smooth muscle anatomy, excitation - contraction coupling, and mechanical function. 
11.  Cardiac muscle anatomy, excitation- contraction coupling, and mechanical function. 
12.  The coronary electrical conduction pathways 
13. Human body temperature regulation
