EVERY student deserves an educational environment free from sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual violence, dating
or domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation.
What is Title IX?
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs
and activities receiving federal financial assistance. Parker University prohibits sex-based discrimination and retaliation and maintains procedures
for responding to reports of prohibited conduct.
What conduct may violate University Title IX / sexual misconduct policy?
• Sexual harassment - unwelcome sex-based conduct that meets applicable legal or University policy standards.
• Sexual assault - sexual acts or contact without valid consent, including when a person is unable to consent.
• Dating or domestic violence - covered acts of violence involving current or former intimate, dating, family, or household relationships.
• Stalking - a course of conduct directed at a person that would cause a reasonable person to fear for safety or experience substantial emotional
distress.
• Sex discrimination - treating someone differently or denying educational access or benefits on the basis of sex.
• Retaliation - intimidation, threats, coercion, discrimination, or adverse action because someone reported concerns, participated in a process, or
exercised protected rights.
CONSENT MATTERS REMEMBER
Consent should be voluntary and cannot be obtained through force, threats, coercion, or from a person who is incapacitated and unable to
make an informed decision. Silence, lack of resistance, a prior relationship, or prior sexual activity should never be assumed to mean consent. Consent should be present throughout the interaction.
Your responsibilities as a Parker University student
• Respect boundaries and consent. Never pressure, coerce, threaten, or engage in sexual activity without valid consent.
• Follow University policy. Know and comply with Parker University's Title IX and related sexual misconduct expectations.
• Do not retaliate. Never punish, threaten, intimidate, harass, or isolate someone for reporting, supporting another person, or participating in a
University process.
• Cooperate honestly. If involved in a University process, preserve relevant information and provide truthful information.
• Know how to report concerns. You may report conduct affecting you or another member of the Parker community to the Title IX Coordinator or
another appropriate University official.
• Understand employee reporting obligations. Parker's published policy states that employees are generally required to report sexual
harassment, while designated confidential resources such as licensed professional counselors acting in their professional capacity have different
confidentiality obligations.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF SOMETHING HAPPENS?
You have options. Seeking support does not require you to handle the situation alone.
1. Prioritize safety- If there is an immediate threat or emergency, contact 911 or appropriate emergency services. Seek medical
attention when needed.
2. Consider reporting- Contact Parker University's Title IX Coordinator or another official identified in the University's current Title IX /
Harassment / Discrimination Policy.
3. Ask about supportive measures- Supportive measures may be available based on the circumstances. Ask the Title IX Coordinator what options
are available to support continued access to your education.
4. Preserve information- Save relevant texts, emails, direct messages, photographs, videos, witness names, dates, locations, and other
potentially helpful information.
5. Seek confidential support- If you want to speak confidentially before deciding what to do, ask about Parker University's designated
confidential resources, including licensed professional counselors acting within their professional role.
Important: retaliation is prohibited
Parker University prohibits retaliation against a person because they made a report, filed a complaint, participated in an investigation or
resolution process, supported another person, or exercised rights protected by Title IX. Report retaliation concerns promptly.
