Description

Fundamentals of Diagnostic Imaging (FDI) is an introduction to the basic physics principles that govern diagnostic imaging. It is designed to provide foundational knowledge of the production of x-rays and the acquisition of diagnostic quality images. The primary focus of the course includes the history and discovery of x-rays, x-ray interactions with matter, x-ray film and screens, film processing, digital radiography, and radiobiology. It also includes
an overview of other contemporary imaging modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MR), computed tomography (CT), dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), diagnostic ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. The course emphasizes the utility of diagnostic imaging in formulating a diagnosis, and an introduction to the process of ordering diagnostic studies, preparing the graduate student for advanced courses in utilizing diagnostic imaging.
Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in Trimester I at Parker University, College of Chiropractic
