Lending Library

We provide a lending library for faculty development. This is located outside the CTL on the second floor of the east building, within the DC faculty office suite. See the tab labeled "Faculty Development Lending Library" in the left-hand menu for more details.

Classroom Resources

We have a variety of resources available to make your classroom activities more engaging. These items include: buzzer system, large rolling dice, puzzle templates, assorted drawing materials, and more. Please contact a CTL staff member for assistance and/or to consider your classroom resource needs.

Research and Ethics Training

The CTL offers potential researchers information and resources on designing survey, educational and other forms of scientific research, as well as training in the ethics necessary to conduct such human research participant studies.

SAFE ZONE Ally Training

Co-sponsored with the Department of Student Affairs, the CTL provides SAFE ZONE Ally Training for faculty, staff, and students seeking to become an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Trainings are offered throughout the year and provides participants with an opportunity to develop the awareness, knowledge, skills, and action needed to be a proactive bystander and serve as a safe zone for the LGBTQ+ community and other minoritized groups on Parker University's campus. University Committee Service

Members of the CTL often participate in university committees to serve the institution and serve as a resource for the entire campus community. Common areas of service include, but are not limited to: Human Resources, College of Chiropractic, Student Affairs, Research, and Accreditation. To request a CTL member to serve on your campus committee or within your current initiatives, please email or call extension 7421.

Book Discussions

Every year, Parker University faculty are provided a book at the annual Symposium on Teaching and Learning. These books are recommended by the keynote speakers, CTL staff, or other faculty wanting to know more about certain areas of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Informal book discussions usually result from one or more faculty members reading the same book. Occasionally, a formal book club/discussion is formed to facilitate stronger guided discussions.

Throughout the year, the Center for Teaching and Learning conducts workshops on issues and topics relevant to faculty at Parker University. Previous topics include: Team-Based Learning, hosted webinars (ex. Magna Publications), assessment, flipped classrooms, Bloom's taxonomy, creating a rubric, etc. Please contact the CTL to see how we can create a workshop to meet your needs.

Teaching Consultations

Teaching consultations are one-on-one meetings designed to meet an individual faculty member’s needs by helping them to tackle a teaching challenge or to try new teaching approaches to foster student learning. Teaching consultations can cover a variety of topics or issues, including:  

  • Writing course-level learning outcomes
  • Designing courses to enhance critical thinking
  • Creating instructional media (podcasts, videos)
  • Teaching strategies for online courses
  • Using blogs in your courses
  • Designing and creating effective rubrics
  • Teaching strategies to improve student learning
  • Improving teaching effectiveness
  • Incorporating formative assessment into courses

Teaching Observations

Teaching observations are an important component of faculty development. These observations can be beneficial to faculty as they;powerfully document teaching activities, encourage reflection, foster constructive dialogues, and strengthen teaching.
  • feedback on teaching strategies, student learning, and classroom management
  • ideas for redesigning course elements or ideas for adoption of new teaching methods
  • self-reflection of their teaching and with evaluation of the effectiveness of their teaching related to student learning outcomes
  • share and discuss teaching methods and improve on their own teaching methods
Through the teaching observation process, the CTL seeks to provide faculty with constructive feedback that generates new ideas for effective teaching and student learning. To discuss the process, or to schedule an observation, contact the CTL at or x7421.
